根据新闻上说“热潮由来已久，不仅普通公众多有怨言，一些专业人士也纷纷对此提出批评质疑。不久前，教育部前发言人王旭明通过微博呼吁取消小学英语课，令英语教育再次成为大众关注的话题。实际上，这样的质疑从未平息，20xx年全国两会期间，毕业于北京大学英语专业的全国政协委员俞敏洪接受记者采访时明确表示，“中国人从幼儿园就开始学英语，评职称还考英语，这是很荒谬的事”。中国教育学会会长顾明远则大声疾呼：“普通高考要减少考试门数，可以数学和语文为主”，对外语有要求的专业，“外语可参照全国等级考试成绩，不必纳入高考”。

实际上，江苏高考新政并没有完全取消英语考试，而是将“一考定终身”调整为考生每年可参加两次英语高考，选取成绩最高的一次作为高考成绩，与此同时，英语考试只计算等级而不计分。显而易见，一年两考将大大缓解“一考定终身”的压力，而英语考级也更多展示出一种素质教育的思路——英语并非不再需要，只不过是换了种形式进行考核，如果考生有兴趣和需求，完全可以在高考前“过级”，而不必将压力带到高考。没有了考试和升学的压力之后，“平易近人”的英语也许更容易引起学生沟通交流的兴趣，从而使英语教育回归本意。
